Upgraded lighting for the Model Railroad
To highlight the amazing features of our model railroad, upgraded energy efficient lighting is needed. Progress on the model continues as we add detail to many scenic areas including the Avila Grocery Store, Gas Station, Post Office, and the Santa Margarita Main Street. We have started installing overhead lighting and valences with lights that will give the model a more realistic look and can even be dimmed to create a night-time setting.
La Cuesta Passenger Car Painting
The La Cuesta Pullman passenger car needs new exterior painting in preparation for its 100th birthday in 2026. The car was built by Pullman in 1926 as a lounge-café car. We have been refurbishing the car since it was donated to us in 2006 including a beautiful interior lounge and dining room and now want to see the exterior shine as well. We proudly show the car off every Saturday and hope you’ll stop by to see it.
Southern Pacific Boxcar Exhibit
Our Southern Pacific wooden boxcar has been recently restored and moved to the museum display track. We now plan to begin construction of an interior storage room and a Southern Pacific exhibit inside the car. This SP exhibit will present the history of the Southern Pacific Railroad with a major emphasis on the Southern Pacific employees who have worked here on the Central Coast since 1894.
